SPOILER ALERT!

30-Day October Book Challenge ~ Day 23

The Picture of Dorian Gray: An Annotated, Uncensored Edition - Oscar Wilde, Nicholas Frankel

Day 23 ~ A book you wanted to read for a long time but still haven't

The covers I came across for this book certainly don't do justice to the story. No, I haven't read it, but I do know what it's all about. I saw the movie ~ sort of.

I can't continue, though, without giving a great big SPOILER WARNING. Because I saw the END of the movie. Just the end. And that's why I haven't yet read the book.

If you're unfamiliar with the story, it concerns a beautiful man and a portrait of said beautiful man. The portrait of Dorian Gray ages; Dorian remains beautiful. But every debauched act he commits shows itself on the increasingly disgusting picture.

In the end Dorian stabs the portrait, which reverts back to the young, beautiful original, and Dorian ages into what the hideous portrait was and dies. It was a scene so horrifying that I have never been able to make myself read the book.
