I'm just a little Sock Poppet, reading and playing. Having fun is never a waste of time!

Heart and Soul / Gena K. Gorrell ~ 6/27/15
Heart and Soul is a biography of Florence Nightingale. It's written for children, but I think it's one of the best biographies I've read. It includes pictures and images of the Victorian era and lots of historical information about the Crimean War.
All Together Now / Anita Jeram ~ 6/11/15
Whispers in Autumn / Trisha Leigh ~ 6/24/15
Whispers in Autumn is the first in a four-book series. I got this book free, but decided to buy the box set. I found out I had a $10 credit on Amazon that I didn't know about. Very cool!

July's Reading Challenge ~ Life's a Beach.
I've seen a few people answering these questions and tracked down the originator to a little blog called My Little Book Blog.
http://mylittlebookblog.com/2015/06/05/get-to-know-me-tag-twenty-one-questions/
Without further ado, here are my answers.
1. Are you named after anyone?
Nope. None of my immediate family is.
2. When was the last time you cried?
Within the last few weeks, while reading a book.
3. Do you have kids?
Not at the moment. I'm a teacher on summer break.
4. If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?
Hmm, if I were another person, would this other person still be me? Or would it be part me and the rest of me be myself? I'm starting to get freaked out by this question, so I'll just move along.
5. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Who, me?
6. Will you ever bungee-jump?
Only if I become that other person in #4.
7. What’s your favorite cereal?
Oatmeal with blueberries. One summer I ate it every morning for breakfast.
8. What’s the first thing you notice about people?
If they're facing me, earrings. I love earrings and I always notice when someone is wearing them.
9. What is your eye colour?
Dark brown.
10. Scary movie or happy endings?
Happy endings, but no scary movies. Even if they have happy endings.
11. Favorite smells?
Chocolate cooking or bread baking. I once worked near a chocolate factory and every Thursday they cooked their chocolate. The smell was heavenly and they sent broken pieces to us.
12. Summer or winter?
Summer . . . no working!
13. Computer or television?
Computer.
14. What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home?
8,501 mi (Bali)
15. Do you have any special talents?
I'm very crafty.
16. Where were you born?
In a hospital.
17. What are your hobbies?
Reading. Making jewelry. Making things instead of buying them.
18. Do you have any pets?
Lots of giraffes! Sadly, none are real.
19. Favorite movie?
Laura. 1944. Black and white. Film noir. Perfect.
20. Do you have any siblings?
Yes. I'm particularly close to my sister.
21. What do you want to be when you grow up?
I don't plan to grow up.
Ash, Bend, Far, In, Road, Thief
Loving Lord Ash / Sally MacKenzie ~ 5/25/15
In a Mirror / Mary Stolz ~ 5/25/15
Penderwicks in Spring / Jeanne Birdsall ~ 5/10/15 (Audiobook)
Up a Road Slowly / Irene Hunt ~ 5/3/15
Mistress Thief / Alana Clayton ~ 5/26/15
Where the Lost Aprils Are / Elisabeth Ogilvie ~ 5/16/15
Miriam takes a vacation in a small town in Maine to try to find links to her mother. I've always wanted to visit the east coast of the US and someday I plan to do it. I'll skip the drama in this book, though.
3 ~ book with a character who dares to be different
Freddy the Detective / Walter R. Brooks ~ 5/4/15
A pig who turns detective? I'd say that qualifies as different!
I'd never heard of the Freddy the Pig series until someone mentioned it on an Amazon discussion. It's written for children, but don't let that stop you from enjoying these books. I've read the first two I could find (#3 and 4 in the series) and they are delightful. I've got #5 ready to start soon.
4 ~ book with a character who defies orders
Erased / Jennifer Rush ~ 5/9/15
As we saw in #1, Anna is not a character who spends her time on the straight and narrow. It's an exciting book with great characters.
June's Reading Challenge ~ Six It Is.
